Prosiecka dolina (Prosiecka valley)

Liptovský hrad a Kalameny (Liptov Castle and Kalamens)

Liptovský hrad (other names: Sielnický hrad, Liptovský Starý hrad) is a ruin of a castle in Liptov, near the borders of the districts of Liptovský Mikuláš and Ružomberok. Located in the district of Liptovský Mikuláš, about 220 m. from borders in cadastral area of Sestrč, which is part of the village Liptovská Sielnica.

 

The remains of the former castle stand on the hill Sestrč (999.9 m above sea level) in Chočske vrchy, they rise above the villages Kalameny and Bukovina. It was the highest perched castle in Slovakia and also one of the highest perched in Central Europe.

The possibility of pleasant and free relaxation in the warm mineral water offers a thermal spring with a lake in Kalameny.

Čereňová skala (Čereňová rock)

Čerenová skala is located in Chočské vrchy above Liptovská Anna. It is not a very distinctive hill, but at the top there is a rocky plateau, from which you will have an impressive view of the Liptovská Mara dam and Nízke Tatry (Low Tatras.)

The hike begins in the village on the square or at the end of the village at the mouth of the valley, where the forest road begins. After about 100 m, take the road on the right. Take a short walk along the road – a few 100 m and then turn left onto the trail. It is well visible and is marked with an arrow and a red tourist sign.

The ascent takes about 45 minutes and is not difficult – you can handle it even with small children. The rock is pleasantly smooth and during June-July flowers bloom in its gaps.

Choč

Veľký Choč is a majestic stone beauty who bears the adjective the highest peak of Chočské vrchy (the Choč Hills). These are typical in that, they do not form a ridge, but individual massifs that are intersected by deep canyon valleys.

Veľký Choč is considered to be one of the most beautiful hills in Slovakia. It is characterized by the presence of rare flora and a valuable representation of rare animals. It is also known for its beautiful views from the top. Historically, Veľký Choč used to be an important landmark on the trade route connecting the Danube region with the Baltics.

Currently, Veľký Choč is a popular tourist destination. It is an ideal place for doing shorter and moderately demanding tours, as well as long and more exposed ones.

It is possible to ascend to Veľký Choč from both the Liptov and Orava sides. The shortest and probably the most used routeleads from Valaská Dubová along the blue marked hiking trail (approx. 3.5 hours).

Aquapark Tatralandia

Aquapark Tatralandia is the largest waterpark in Slovakia and one of the largest in Central Europe. It is located 2 km northwest of the center of Liptovský Mikuláš in

borough Ráztoky, on the northern bank of the Liptovská Mara reservoir. The source of thermal water is a borehole, from which water flows to the surface from a depth of more than 2,500 m with a temperature of 60.7 ° C.

Archeoskanzen Havránok

Havránok is an archeological site above the Liptovská Mara dam and a museum in nature. It is located in the cadastral area of Liptovská Sielnica, 2 km south of Bobrovník in Liptovský Mikuláš district. It lies at the eastern foot of the Úložisko hill (741.7 m above sea level).

The Celtic fortifications of the Kotin settlement with a Druid shrine from the 1st century BC were discovered here. A sacrificial shaft with an altar and alms sacrifices, stone paths with a colonnade, as well as Celtic imitations of ancient coins were discovered. In the 12th to 15th centuries there was a Slavic settlement, there was a medieval landed wooden castle, fortified with palisades with a moat and a residential tower. In the later period, a brick church was built. Havránok is a settlement from the La Tène ((Púchov culture)) period and from the High Middle Ages.

Liptovská Mara

Liptovská Mara is a waterworks in central Liptov in Slovakia, near Liptovský Mikuláš. It is a part of the Vážská kaskáda (Váh cascade) dam system.

The work was built in 19691975. During the construction, 13 villages, were flooded, of which 12 were completely (Čemice, Demčín , Liptovská MaraLiptovská Sielnica (the former one), Nižné DechtárePaludzaParížovceRáztokySestrčSokolčeVrbieVyšné Dechtáre), Liptovský Trnovec Bukovina. A total of 940 families were relocated, representing more than 4,000 inhabitants.
